1.     Callous (adjective): not caring about other people’s feelings or sufferings;
Synonym: cruel, unfeeling
·        A callous killer/attitude/act.
·        A callous disregard for the feeling of others.
·        He was convicted of the particularly callous murder or two teenage boys.
2.     Encumbrance (noun): a person or thing that prevents somebody from moving easily or from doing what they want;
Synonym: burden
·        I felt I was being an encumbrance to them.
3.     Poignant (adjective): having a strong effect on your feelings, especially in a way that makes you feel sad;
Synonym: Moving
·        A poignant image/memory/moment etc.
·        Her face was a poignant reminder of the passing of time.  
4.     Vehement (adjective): showing very strong feelings, especially anger;
Synonym : forceful
Noun: vehemence   Adverb: vehemently
·        A vehement denial/protest/attack, etc.
·        He had been vehement in his opposition to the idea.
5.     Savour (verb): to enjoy full taste or flavour of something, especially by eating or drinking it slowly; to enjoy a feeling or an experience thoroughly;
Synonym: relish
·        She took a sip of wine, savouring the fine vintage.
·        He sat for a few moments, savouring the memory to the full.
6.     Consternation (noun): a worried sad feeling after you have received an unpleasant surprise;
Synonym: Dismay;
·        The announcement of her retirement caused consternation among tennis fans.
·        Her mouth fell open in consternation.  
7.     Octogenarian (noun): a person between 80 and 89 years old.
8.     Quiescent (adjective): quiet; not active; (of a disease etc.) not developing, especially when this is probably a temporary state;
Synonym: Dormant
·        The quiescence of trade union acting during the 1930s.
9.     Consortium (noun): a group of people, countries, companies, etc. who are working together on a particular project;
·        The Anglo-French consortium that built the Channel Tunnel.
·        Our company forms part of a consortium of local businesses working for environmental change.
