Forbes super achiever under 30 list

Many Indians including gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Sakshi Malik and Alia Bhatt are among forbes’ list of super achievers from Asia under the age of 30. Karmakar, who became the first Indian female to ever compete in the Rio Olympics is top indian in the list. The list also features Sharath Gayakwad India’s first Paralympic swimmer, coach and Arjuna Award winner who has won 96 medals.


RUSA portal launched

Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), under the aegis of the Human Resource Development, will launch its own portal and mobile app. Human Resource and Development minister Prakash Javadekar launched the portal and mobile app in New Delhi. The portal is a one-stop for states’ Higher Education Plans, decision of the states’ Higher Education Councils.

Bambi Bucket operation

The Indian Air Force is running ‘Bambi Bucket operation’ to douse the wildfire in the Mount Abu. IAF has flown so far a total of 144 shuttles with Bambi buckets dropping around 4,00,000 litres of water at various locations to douse the blaze in Mount Abu. The two MI-17 V5 helicopters of the IAF flew a total of 64 shuttles in one day.

Asian Billiards Championship

Sixteen-time world champion Pankaj Advani won his sixth Asian Billiards title and seventh overall Asian Championship. The Ace cueist defeated his compatriot Sourav Kothari 6-3 in the final of the Asian Billiards Championship in Chandigarh.

Jalyukta Shivar to be replicated by the Centre Government

PM Modi has mentioned the Maharashtra government’s flagship project Jalyukta Shivar to tackle drought situation the country. The Jalyukta Shivar was launched in Maharashtra on January 26, 2015. The government plans to make all 25,000 drought-prone villages water reliant by 2019.

China to launch first Cargo Spacecraft Tianzhou-1

China’s first Cargo Spacecraft Tianzhou-1 is to be launched in space between April 20 and 24 to dock with the orbiting experimental space station. The ship is the first Cargo Ship independently developed by the country. China is currently in the process of building permanent station by 2022 to rival Russia’s International Space Station.

China’s GDP posts 6.9% growth

China’s economy beat the government target and grew by 6.9% in the first quarter this year. This was mainly due a surge in infrastructure investment and exports. The GDP reached 18.07 trillion Yuan ($2.63 trillion) in the first quarter. The growth was well above the full year target of 6.5 per cent.

1st Nepal-China joint military exercise

The first Nepal-China joint military exercise has begun at Kathmandu. The ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2017’ drill is aimed to exchange experience, skills and professional knowledge between the armies of the Nepal and China. The 10-day exercise is focused on counter-terrorism and disaster management.

Nepal President arrives in Delhi

Nepal President Vidhya Devi Bhandari arrived in New Delhi on 17 April on a five-day visit to India. She will have delegation level talks and will also meet President Pranav Mukherjee, Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari during her stay. This is her first state visit after assuming office of the President in October 2015.

Govt. okays lowering of the PF rate to 8.65%

The Finance ministry has permitted the labour Ministry to go ahead with 8.65% rate of interest on employees’ provident fund for 2016-17. The Finance Ministry in its communication to the labour Ministry has, however, put a rider that the interest rate should not result in a deficit for the retirement fund.

Modi on two-day visit to Gujarat

PM Modi who arrived in Surat on a two-day visit will inaugurate a series of projects in the state. The Prime minister in Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Project for Botad.  The Prime Minister will also go to Bajipura village in Tapi District to inaugurate a cattle feed plant and ice cream plant of Sumul Dairy.

Erdogan declares victory in Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared victory in a historic referendum that will tighten his grip on power. The ‘Yes’ Campaign won 51.3 percent of vote against 48.7% for ‘NO’, the Election Commission said.

First train with Glass roof lauched

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday inaugurated the new Vistadome Coach which has glass roof. It also has LED lights, GPS based info system and rotating seats among other features. The train with Vistadome Coaches between Vishkhapatnam and Araku was flagged 0ff through video conferencing from Rail Sadan.
